PETOSKEY NEWS - REVIEW
CEMENT CARRIER John L.A. Gaster follows close behind the Coast Guard Cutter Sundew (W404) yesterday noon, making her way across Little Traverse Bay to the company dock at Pann Dixie Cement Corporation. Here it was moving through about two feet of heavy ice and snow. It reached the dock about 3 p.m. but it wasn't until 6 p.m. that the load was taken on due to heavy ice building up around the moorings. Low water also caused trouble in loading and part of the load had to be taken on without the carrier moored fast to dockside, according to a plant official. The Sundew returned this morning from Charlevoix to clear more ice so the Galster could leave for Chicago before noon. (New-Review aerial photo by Fred Loveiace)
