Day 8	Day 9, Monday: Aug. 30, 2004	Day 10
After a good rest in our nice little camp-style bungalow, we headed back north to pan for gold! And we found some. I’m not giving up my day job though, as it is hard work and not much gold. After an hour of panning, we had maybe enough gold for a small tooth filling. We heard that a Japanese man had come there to pan for gold on his vacation for four years, two weeks at a time, until he had enough gold to make a ring for his intended bride. There the story ends….sorry. I have no idea how it all turned out. Probably she kept the ring….
バンガローはカーペット敷になっていたので、寝袋でも心地よく寝ることが出来ました。今日は北上して砂金採りする予定です。途中温泉を3，4箇所尋ねましたが、みな営業時間が噛みあわずに、夜の宿を決めるまで入れませんでした。今までは３日間は朝夜２回づつ温泉に入れたのに、記録ストップです。今日は山中を走ったので野生の鹿を3頭目撃しました。感激!　中頓別での砂金採りも楽しい経験になりましたが、1時間の重労働で、やっと虫歯の小さな穴を埋める位しか採れませんでした。横浜に住む男性が夏休みに砂金採りして4年かけて彼女に婚約指輪を作って贈ったそうです。その話がその後どう展開したかは知りませんが…
